Reflexology
Reflexology is completely non-invasive, pleasurable and relaxing, and although I only massage the feet, the resultant effect is like having had a full body massage.
Everyone can benefit from reflexology including children, the elderly, the sick and the healthy.
Based on the principle that reflex points on the soles, top and sides of the feet are connected to corresponding areas throughout the body (The feet map the body's glands, organs and structure). I use my thumbs and fingers to apply gentle pressure and compression massage to stimulate these reflexes to bring balance and relaxation to the whole body.
Reflexology is a holistic therapy working along principles that aim to treat your mind, body and spirit rather than a diagnosis or set of symptoms. For instance, if you are suffering from stress, your body may be affected as well as your mind. Similarly, a physical illness can be emotionally draining. Reflexology aims to rebalance the whole of your being and so may be more effective than working directly on one part of you.
What does a reflexologist feel during treatments?
A qualified reflexologist believes they can feel crystal deposits on the feet and hands which could indicate areas of sluggish energy flow. A reflexologist would work these areas with the intention to break down the deposits and restore energy flow thus enabling the body to get rid of toxic waste products and heal itself.
There may be discomfort in some places, but it is fleeting and an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body. For most part the sensation is pleasant and soothing. Reflexology will relax you while stimulating the body's own healing mechanisms. Tensions are eased, circulation and elimination of toxins and waste improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.
Since Reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment. Reflexology is used by many, alongside conventional medicine, to help with a wide variety of ailments. Anecdotally, through Practitioners’ experience, reflexology may be helpful in the following areas:
The therapy may bring relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions and is suitable for all ages. Recipients of Reflexology have reported it to be a great pain reliever. Some of the conditions Reflexology can address are listed below:
